Archer Aviation electric air taxi development in Los Angeles

Overview

Archer Aviation and AEG have entered a multi-year partnership to develop a vertiport at the L.A. LIVE sports and entertainment district in downtown Los Angeles. This facility is intended to serve as a key node in an expanding electric air taxi network designed to mitigate traffic congestion ahead of the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The network will utilize Archer’s Midnight aircraft, an all-electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) vehicle capable of carrying four passengers and one pilot. The aircraft is designed to be quieter than traditional helicopters and produces zero operating emissions, with the goal of reducing travel times across the city significantly.

Following an initial feasibility study regarding land use and airspace, the project is moving into a second phase to review operational approaches. While the L.A. LIVE site is a primary focus, Santa Monica has also been identified as a potential destination within the network to assist travelers moving between major venues such as SoFi Stadium.
