Architecture Day festival explores housing trends and urban living
The Architecture Day festival is set to take place from October 1 to October 7 across more than one hundred cities and municipalities in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Under the motto ‘I live, therefore I am’, the event explores the evolution of housing, from historical tenement houses and villas to modern residential projects and collective living experiments.
The festival aims to spark discussions regarding housing accessibility, the transformation of urban landscapes, and the quality of public spaces. Participants can access hundreds of free excursions and guided walks into typically inaccessible buildings, including the Rezidence Drdla in Žďár nad Sázavou and Rezidence Příční in Brno.
In tandem with these cultural explorations, housing trends in the region show a growing interest in terraced houses with gardens. This housing type serves as a middle ground between apartments and detached houses, offering private outdoor space and more efficient land use. Such developments, like the Pískovna Beroun project, provide a more affordable alternative for families wishing to remain near urban services while avoiding the high costs of standalone single-family homes.
