Architecture Day festival and urban planning in CZ and SK
Overview
The 16th annual Architecture Day festival is scheduled to take place from October 1 to October 7, featuring events in over 100 towns and cities across the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Operating under the motto ‘I dwell, therefore I am,’ the festival focuses on housing as a critical societal issue, exploring its impact on urban spaces, public life, and social relationships.
The program examines various living forms, ranging from historical worker colonies and functionalist villas to modern experimental projects and collective housing. Specific highlights include the functionalist Molochov complex in Brno, the Nový dům colony in Pisárky, and notable villas in Humpolec, Kutná Hora, and Olomouc. In Prague, guided walks will feature lesser-known modernist sites, such as the 1981 brick high-rise complex at Bohdalce. The event also commemorates anniversaries for Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Tomáš Baťa, and the Václav Havel family.
In the Czech Republic, specific events cover locations such as Bílina, Most, Louny, Litvínov, Lom, and Žatce. Regional highlights include the architectural legacy of the Steinbrener printing family in Vimperk. In Slovakia, Trnava will host its first Architecture Day at the Creative Center Trnava, while Bratislava continues work on a 1:3000 scale interactive 3D physical model of the capital for the Metropolitan Spatial Plan.
In Brno, the T Aréna multifunctional arena at the exhibition grounds is nearing completion and is expected to be handed over for use on October 25. Designed for approximately 13,000 spectators, the facility includes VIP skyboxes, a press center, and digital networking coordinated by T-Mobile.
