Architecture Day festival focuses on housing across Czechia and Slovakia
The 16th annual Architecture Day festival will take place from October 1 to October 7, featuring events in over one hundred towns and cities across the Czech Republic and parts of Slovakia. Under the motto ‘I dwell, therefore I am,’ this year’s theme focuses on housing, exploring its impact on urban spaces, public life, and social relationships.
The program examines various forms of living, ranging from historical worker colonies and functionalist villas to modern experimental projects and collective housing. Specific highlights include the functionalist Molochov complex in Brno, the Nový dům colony in Pisárky, and several notable villas in Humpolec, Kutná Hora, and Olomouc.
In Prague, the festival will feature guided walks of lesser-known modernist sites, such as the 1981 brick high-rise complex at Bohdalce designed by engineer Karel Vejmelka. The event also commemorates significant anniversaries, including the 140th anniversary of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, the 150th anniversary of Tomáš Baťa, and the 90th anniversary of the Václav Havel family’s influence on Prague’s development.
