Dominican Republic launches 200 million peso sports infrastructure project
Dominican Republic's Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz, has launched a 200 million peso project to construct seven multipurpose sports facilities in the Southern Region. The works will be distributed across the provinces of Barahona, Elías Piña, and Independencia, aiming to provide modern and safe spaces for youth and community development.
In Barahona, investments will fund multipurpose covered courts in El Peñón, Jaquimeyes, and Fundación. Elías Piña will see new facilities in Pedro Santana and Juan Santiago, while Independencia will benefit the municipalities of La Descubierta and Cristóbal.
Other regional sports developments include the appointment of Manuel Silva as the new administrator for the José Briceño Baseball Park in Puerto Plata, a move met with criticism from local sports associations. Additionally, the Arena Santo Domingo is scheduled to open in November with a capacity of up to 10,000 people, intended for concerts, theater, and sporting events.
