Arequipa celebrates 486th anniversary with Corso de la Amistad festivities

During the celebrations for the 486th anniversary of Arequipa, the Corso de la Amistad 2026 featured prominent local institutional participation.

Caja Arequipa was awarded Best Delegation for its parade entry, which featured a float inspired by the Arequipa Cathedral and the city's iconic sillar stone. The presentation included musicians and dancers performing traditional Arequipean carnival music to celebrate the institution's 40th anniversary.

Universidad Continental also participated with a delegation of over 250 members, including its dance ensemble and university tuna. Their presentation focused on regional roots by featuring the Texao plant, distributing more than 3,000 seeds to attendees to encourage local cultivation. The university also promoted environmental awareness by distributing bags with messages regarding the importance of keeping public spaces clean during the festivities.
