Arequipa celebrates 486th anniversary with religious and cultural milestones

The city of Arequipa is celebrating its 486th anniversary with significant religious and cultural milestones. As part of the festivities, an image of the Virgen de Chapi was flown over the city via a Peruvian Army helicopter. The 36-minute flight covered various sectors, including hospitals and the Corso de la Amistad, intended to provide a blessing to local families.

Coinciding with the city's anniversary, Everardo Zapata Santillana, the creator of the iconic educational book ‘Coquito’, celebrated his 100th birthday. Zapata, a renowned educator, expressed his gratitude for the public recognition of his work, which has served as a primary reading method for generations of students in Peru and Latin America through more than 60 editions.
