Peru security: Arequipa to deliver 100 patrol vehicles to police
Various security and law enforcement developments are occurring across Peru. In Arequipa, Regional Governor Rohel Sánchez announced that 100 new patrol vehicles, acquired through a S/ 18.1 million investment, will be delivered to the National Police on October 26. The delivery follows criticisms regarding the vehicles being stored outdoors; Sánchez attributed the delay to administrative hurdles involving payment certificates required by the Ministry of the Interior and Sunarp.
In Moquegua, Anglo American has signed a cooperation agreement with the Ministry of the Interior to donate 14 double-cabin pickup trucks to strengthen police operations across the Mariscal Nieto, Ilo, and General Sánchez Cerro provinces. This initiative aims to benefit approximately 180,000 residents.
In Ica, authorities have intensified security measures for the upcoming Señor de Luren processions on October 19 and 25. The police deployment includes specialized units to maintain order and prevent crime during the religious events. Additionally, a joint operation between the police and the army led to the arrest of an individual known as ‘Chapo Guzmán’ in Pisco for alleged robbery and receiving stolen goods.
On a national level, the Ministry of the Interior authorized a transfer of 5.7 million soles to the United States to cover maintenance costs for nine Black Hawk helicopters used in anti-drug operations.
