Arequipa health officials report up to 30 suspected measles cases

Health authorities in the Arequipa-Caylloma region of Peru announced that between 20 and 30 suspected measles cases have been identified as of the latest Friday. The cases were reported from 153 health establishments, and patients presented high fever and skin rashes.

The regional health network’s director, Ruperto Dueñas Carpio, said blood and swab samples were collected and sent to the Regional Reference Laboratory, where results can be obtained within two to four hours—significantly faster than previous testing that required sending samples to Lima. Ongoing epidemiological surveillance continues across the jurisdiction, with officials urging anyone with compatible symptoms to seek medical care.
