Arequipa physician detained following sexual harassment allegations

A 26-year-old woman has filed a complaint with the Peruvian National Police against Jesús Arizapana, a physician at the EsSalud Metropolitan Polyclinic in Arequipa, alleging sexual harassment and inappropriate touching.

The victim reported that during a medical consultation for a headache, the doctor made inappropriate comments regarding her physical appearance and intimate life. She further alleged that during an abdominal examination, the physician attempted to lift her underwear and made an attempt to kiss her by force.

Following the incident, the patient reported the matter to the police. Authorities have detained the physician at the Santa Marta police station while preliminary investigations are conducted by the Public Ministry. EsSalud issued a statement confirming that they are taking measures in accordance with the Executive Presidency to act with rigor and respect for due process.
