Arequipa medical misconduct investigation

Overview

A physician at the EsSalud Metropolitan Polyclinic in Arequipa, Jesús Arizapana, was detained by the Peruvian National Police following allegations of sexual harassment. A 26-year-old patient reported that during a medical consultation, the physician made inappropriate comments regarding her appearance and intimate life, and allegedly attempted to kiss her by force during an examination.

Authorities have detained the physician at the Santa Marta police station while the Public Ministry conducts preliminary investigations. EsSalud stated it is taking measures to act with “rigor and respect for due process.”
