Arequipa prepares for 486th anniversary celebrations

Arequipa is preparing for its 486th anniversary celebrations, featuring various cultural events and logistical adjustments. The District Municipality of Cayma has officially announced the 2026 Entrada de Ccapo, scheduled for August 14. This year’s theme focuses on the life and work of the poet Mariano Melgar, with various representations planned throughout the parade to strengthen local identity.

In preparation for the central anniversary serenata, the Provincial Municipality of Arequipa has implemented traffic restrictions. Partial closures of the uphill lane on La Marina Avenue have been ordered to facilitate the assembly of the main stage. Authorities are coordinating with transport and security departments to establish alternative routes and minimize impact on commuters. Traffic flow on the main avenue is expected to normalize by August 15.
