Arequipa regional government delivers 100 patrol vehicles to police
The regional government of Arequipa has delivered 100 new patrol vehicles to the National Police of Peru (PNP) to bolster citizen security. The fleet, acquired through a 'Works for Taxes' project involving an investment of over S/ 18 million by the company Maquinarias S.A., includes 86 pickup trucks for 58 police stations and 14 vehicles for the Emergency Unit.
Regional Governor Rohel Sánchez expressed expectations for immediate results, urging the police to use the new resources to identify and capture members of organized crime groups. The distribution will benefit several provinces, including Arequipa, Islay, Camaná, Caravelí, Castilla, Condesuyos, and Caylloma.
The delivery addresses a critical need for fleet renewal, as records from the Ministry of the Interior indicate that 68 of the 241 existing police vehicles in the Arequipa region are over 10 years old, with some exceeding 25 years. While the vehicles have been delivered, Governor Sánchez noted that their full operational capacity depends on the Ministry of the Interior regarding fuel allocation and maintenance.
