Arequipa targets MICE tourism growth and celebrates city anniversary

Arequipa is working toward establishing itself as a major destination for MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions) tourism by 2027. During the Arequipa Destination MICE 2027 Forum, Maritza Montero, Vice President of the National Chamber of Tourism of Peru (CANATUR), highlighted the city's potential driven by its cultural heritage, gastronomy, and event infrastructure. Data indicates that international MICE tourists spend an average of US$ 1,321, significantly higher than leisure travelers, and approximately 40% return to their destination for vacations.

In celebration of the city's 486th anniversary, the Provincial Municipality of Arequipa has announced the 2026 Carros Lonccos competition. Scheduled for August 30, the event features allegorical vehicles designed to represent local identity and customs. The competition includes categories for the most creative and fastest vehicles, with prizes for winners and commemorative medals for participants.
