Argeș, Romania Issues Bear Alert After Multiple Sightings and One Injury

The Romanian emergency agency issued an RO‑ALERT for the commune of Bughea de Jos in Argeș County after a bear was reported near the village of Valea Măcelarului, urging residents to stay indoors and keep a safe distance. Authorities warned against approaching, feeding, or photographing the animal and advised pet owners to protect their livestock.

In the same week, local gendarm units responded to 19 emergency calls reporting bears in populated areas across Argeș, including Sălătrucu, Rucăr, and other communes. One incident on 12 July on Mt. Băneasa resulted in a 47‑year‑old man being mauled; he was treated for multiple injuries after rescue teams and the fire service transported him to hospital.
