Argentina adds municipality and PAMI to national stroke response network

The municipality of Tres de Febrero has joined Argentina's National Stroke Program (PRONAC‑ACV), linking its emergency services and local health providers with Hospital Posadas, a 24‑hour high‑complexity reference centre. The integration uses the Ministry of Health's StrokeApp, a mobile tool that enables real‑time clinical assessment, geolocation and rapid referral of stroke patients.

The public health insurer PAMI has also been incorporated into the same network. Under the program, PAMI will receive alerts from the ACV emergency code, coordinate patient transfers and ensure that its 5.4 million beneficiaries—about 25 000 of whom suffer a stroke each year—are directed to the appropriate high‑complexity centre. The scheme relies on a unified protocol, regional coordinating centres, a national registry and the StrokeApp to shorten treatment windows and reduce mortality and long‑term disability.

Both moves aim to improve coordination across the pre‑hospital and hospital phases of stroke care, leveraging technology and standardized procedures to lower the burden of cerebrovascular accidents, the second leading cause of death among Argentine adults.
