Argentina advances energy storage and hydrocarbon investment
Argentina is undergoing significant shifts in its energy and hydrocarbon sectors. The country is focusing on the evolution of its electrical system, specifically regarding the integration of renewable energies and the development of energy storage. A recent AlmaSADI tender for 700.5 MW of battery storage capacity saw high interest, receiving over 230 proposals from 37 companies for a capacity near 8,300 MW.
To address these developments, the Energyear Argentina event will be held on September 16 and 17 at the Faena Art Center in Buenos Aires. The gathering will include representatives from the Ministry of Economy, CAMMESA, YPF, and various technology and energy firms to discuss market evolution, regulation, and infrastructure modernization.
Simultaneously, the hydrocarbon sector is transitioning from resource potential to large-scale production, particularly in Vaca Muerta. While production and export infrastructure are growing, the country faces the challenge of leveraging resources like oil, gas, lithium, and copper to develop new industries such as LNG, petrochemicals, and data centers. The implementation of the RIGI framework aims to provide the long-term fiscal and regulatory stability required to attract the multi-billion dollar investments necessary for these multi-decade projects.
