Argentina advances major coastal drainage projects in Comodoro Rivadavia and Mar del Plata

The government of Chubut province signed a contract worth more than AR$16.7 billion to build a new storm‑water conduit that will discharge to the sea in Comodoro Rivadavia. The 540‑day project, awarded to C.P.C. S.A., will improve urban drainage, lower flood risk and provide a long‑term solution for the city’s historic water‑logging problems. Work is scheduled to begin in the week of 13 July.

In Mar del Plata, Obras Sanitarias del Sur (OSSE) launched a maintenance program for the submarine outfall that carries treated sewage offshore. The operation, costing AR$192.8 million, involves professional divers replacing steel anchoring bolts on the 4,100‑metre‑long pipeline and plans future sonar mapping and remote‑operated vehicle inspections to monitor the pipe’s condition. The outfall, in service since 2014, helps preserve the city’s Blue Flag beach certification by preventing coastal contamination.
