Argentina advances new child‑protection shelters in San Juan and Quilmes

In San Juan Province, the Casa Activa project is entering its final phase. Minister Carlos Platero said the building has been transferred to the province and infrastructure work—such as plumbing, vandalism repairs, landscaping and irrigation—has been completed. The remaining step is a large provincial tender to furnish the complex, which will include 20 studio apartments, 12 one‑bedroom units, a multipurpose hall, a pool and a day‑center. One Casa Activa site will serve youths with substance‑use problems, while the other in Pocito will house children and adolescents referred by the justice system.

Meanwhile, in Quilmes Oeste, Buenos Aires Province, construction is progressing on the Casa de Abrigo Temporal Amanda Allen. The municipal‑funded shelter will provide accommodation, recreational spaces and comprehensive assistance for children, girls and adolescents in vulnerable situations. Both projects aim to expand state capacity for protection and care of minors facing social, health and legal challenges.
