Argentina advances power plant projects in Ushuaia and Salto Grande

Argentina's energy sector is seeing active oversight of two major projects. In Ushuaia, the provincial Energy Minister Gabriela Castillo led a site inspection of the new combined‑cycle power plant, verifying compliance with the environmental impact study and monitoring both the main generation unit and ancillary works. The inspection involved technical teams from the Secretariat of Environment, water resources, and environmental management, emphasizing the plant’s strategic role in meeting growing electricity demand.

In the Río Uruguay basin, Deputy Juan Carlos Chagas visited the University of La Plata's hydraulic engineering department to review simulations and studies guiding the modernization of the Salto Grande hydroelectric dam. The review, supported by Argentine and Uruguayan university experts, aims to identify which turbine blades can remain in service after five decades and which need replacement, influencing renovation costs and the dam’s long‑term performance.
