Argentina Governors Plan Separate Provincial Elections for May 2027

Argentina’s provincial governors are coordinating to hold split provincial elections in 2027, aiming to separate the regional vote from the national presidential election scheduled for October. The strategy is intended to weaken the influence of the libertarian coalition La Libertad Avanza and to manage the timing of primary elections (PASO).

Governors such as Tucumán’s Osvaldo Jaldo, who plans a May third‑Sunday ballot, and Jujuy’s Carlos Sadir, eyeing a May vote for re‑election, are among those aligning their calendars. Others, including the leaders of Misiones, Santa Cruz and San Luis, are also considering May or June dates. The administration emphasizes continuity, with statements like “No hay bajada, seguimos trabajando” reflecting the drive to maintain political stability while preparing for the upcoming contests.
