Argentina and Mexico implement measures to support livestock sectors
In Argentina, the provincial government and agricultural entities are coordinating responses to the El Niño phenomenon. Officials from the Provincial Commission for Agricultural Emergency and Disaster (Cpeyda) met to analyze the impact of rising water levels in the Paraná and Uruguay rivers on livestock production in riparian departments. Hydrological forecasts suggest the phenomenon may reach peak intensity toward the end of the year, potentially extending into the coming months due to saturated soil delaying drainage.
In Mexico, the government of Durango is providing subsidies of 17,500 pesos to assist producers in purchasing registered sires. This initiative, managed by the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, and Rural Development (SAGDR), aims to improve the genetic quality of cattle herds through breeds such as Angus, Brangus, BeefMaster, Charolais, and Limousin. The program seeks to support the more than 50,000 families in Durango who depend on the livestock industry.
