Argentina and Paraguay see currency shifts widening electronics price gaps across South America

A recent price survey compared ten technology products in Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay and Brazil, revealing large price gaps driven by exchange‑rate differences. The iPhone 17 Pro Max (256 GB) costs about US$2,112 in Argentina but only US$1,473 in Chile, making Chile the cheapest market in the region. Other items show similar disparities, such as an 85‑inch LG Smart TV priced at US$2,508 in Argentina versus US$968 in Chile, a 159% difference.

At the same time, Paraguay’s guaraní has reached one of its strongest levels against the U.S. dollar in years, reflecting long‑term fiscal discipline and a credible central bank. While the strong currency lowers import costs and helps contain inflation, it also reduces export earnings for meat, soy and other goods, prompting calls for productivity‑boosting policies. Both stories illustrate how regional currency dynamics are reshaping consumer purchasing decisions and trade balances in South America.
