Spain's wholesale electricity price peaks at night, cheapest early morning hours

The Iberian electricity market posted hourly wholesale prices that vary sharply throughout the day. On 24 June 2026 the reference price was €283.58 /MWh, with the most expensive hour between 22:00‑23:00 at €146.5 /kWh, while the cheapest hour was 01:00‑02:00 at €124.27 /kWh. The following day, 25 June 2026, the reference fell to €247.89 /MWh; the peak price again occurred at 22:00‑23:00 at €147.81 /kWh and the low‑cost window was 01:00‑02:00 at €115.78 /kWh. Consumers are advised to shift high‑consumption appliances such as washing machines, dishwashers and ovens to the low‑price periods to reduce their electricity bills.

Separately, the Spanish government is considering a measure to add comparative neighbour‑consumption data to household electricity bills. The proposal aims to encourage energy savings but raises privacy and fairness concerns, as consumption varies widely between households of different sizes and needs. Critics argue that the initiative could infringe on privacy and that the government, lacking a clear parliamentary majority, should prioritize simplifying bill information rather than publicising neighbours' usage.
