Argentina and U.S. launch Andes-Atlantic Corridor for minerals and energy
Argentina and the United States have launched the Andes-Atlantic Corridor, a major infrastructure initiative designed to connect Argentina’s mineral-rich northwest and the Vaca Muerta energy basin to Atlantic ports and Western markets. The project was presented by Argentine Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno and U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau during the United Nations General Assembly week.
The corridor aims to modernize transportation, energy, and digital connectivity through the expansion of railways, waterways, ports, pipelines, and electrical grids. Key sectors targeted for development include lithium, copper, oil, and gas, as well as agricultural goods.
To support these efforts, an agreement has been reached with the Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM) to mobilize up to $7 billion in financing. This includes direct loans, guarantees, and credit insurance intended to facilitate U.S. exports and reduce financial risks. The initiative represents the first corridor under the G7’s Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment (PGII) in the Western Hemisphere, positioning it as a strategic alternative in the global competition for supply chain influence.
