Argentina appoints unpaid staff for papal visit; Uruguay discloses councilman's advisory costs

The Argentine government has formalized six new ad honorem appointments to the Special Temporary Executive Unit responsible for organizing the upcoming visit of Pope Leo XIV. These unpaid roles are intended to support coordination, protocol, institutional relations, communication, and logistics without incurring additional costs to the state. The unit was established to centralize the organization of the papal tour, which is expected to draw significant numbers of pilgrims and tourists to Buenos Aires and other cities.

In Uruguay, details have emerged regarding the staff structure of nationalist councilman Gonzalo Gómez in the Montevideo Departmental Board. Following a request for public information, it was revealed that Gómez utilizes five contracted staff members through his secretariat budget, totaling 261,820 nominal pesos per month, alongside three officials transferred from other public agencies. The disclosure follows a ruling by the Public Information Access Unit stating that the names and salaries of such advisors must be considered public information.
