Argentina arrests woman for recruiting citizens to fight in Ukraine war

Federal Police agents detained a woman in Tigre, Buenos Aires Province, suspected of running a network that recruited Argentine civilians and former security personnel to travel to Ukraine and join the combat against Russian forces. Recruiters promised a monthly salary of US$3,000, despite the lack of contracts, return tickets or clear job descriptions. The investigation began after four men were intercepted at Ezeiza International Airport in March, where they claimed they were heading to Ukraine for construction work to rebuild damage from Russian attacks. Separate interviews revealed contradictions, leading authorities to block their flight and launch a broader probe. The woman's partner, also implicated, fled to Brazil and remains at large. The case was referred to the Federal Court No. 2 in Lomas de Zamora, which ordered the investigation to be handled by the Federal Police’s Antisecuestros North department.
