Argentina authorities dismantle major tax fraud and criminal networks
Argentine law enforcement has conducted several large-scale operations targeting diverse criminal activities. In a major tax fraud investigation, the Federal Police (PFA) carried out 85 raids across multiple provinces, resulting in 23 arrests. The investigation, initiated by the tax agency ARCA-DGI, targets a scheme involving the simulation of grain trades to illicitly claim approximately $10 million in VAT refunds through fictitious retentions.
In separate cybercrime operations, police in Buenos Aires arrested a man and seized over $255 million in local currency and US dollars following an investigation into bank and digital wallet fraud. Additionally, authorities dismantled a criminal organization operating from the Lisandro Olmos prison, where a leader posed as a police official to conduct nationwide extortion scams and coordinate violent robberies.
Other recent law enforcement actions include the arrest of a group in La Matanza that used fake profiles on ride-sharing apps to ambush drivers, and the detention of a suspect in Pilar who staged a fake currency exchange to rob a financier of 3 million pesos.
