Argentina authorities intercept illegal phytosanitary containers

Authorities in Argentina have conducted two separate operations to intercept and remove illegally handled phytosanitary containers.

In Balcarce, a joint operation involving the Rural Prevention Command, Ecological Police, and municipal security teams removed 226 containers abandoned on a rural road near Route 226. The containers, which contained toxic chemical residues, were classified by hazard level and documented via QR codes and labels to assist in tracing their origin. The materials were transported to a specialized collection center in Balcarce for proper treatment.

In Entre Ríos, police intercepted a truck at the Paso Telégrafo checkpoint on National Route 12. The vehicle, traveling from Corrientes to Santa Fe, was found to be illegally transporting 152 containers of phytosanitary products. The seizure was coordinated with the Secretariat of Environment, citing violations of National Law 27.279, which regulates the management of empty phytosanitary containers and prohibits unauthorized transit, burning, or informal recycling of these materials.
