Agrochemical illegal activity in Argentina
Overview
Authorities in Argentina have conducted several operations targeting the illegal handling and production of agrochemicals.
In September, security forces in Balcarce and Entre Ríos intercepted hundreds of containers. In Balcarce, 226 containers containing toxic chemical residues were removed from a rural road, while in Entre Ríos, police seized 152 containers during a checkpoint inspection. These actions were coordinated to enforce national laws regarding the management of empty phytosanitary containers.
In October, federal authorities dismantled an organized network in Córdoba province involved in the production and sale of counterfeit agrochemicals. Following a complaint regarding counterfeit products, raids were conducted on companies including Agrocampo and Grupo Ceiba. Investigators discovered a production site used for manufacturing and packaging adulterated chemicals, seizing equipment such as mixing vessels and industrial printers for counterfeit labels, with an estimated value of 110 million pesos.
