Argentina awards 3,900 km of national highways to private firms

Argentina's government has announced the awarding of Stage III of the Federal Concessions Network, transferring the management and maintenance of approximately 3,900 kilometers of national highways to private companies. This move, announced by Economy Minister Luis Caputo, brings the total amount of national highways under private concession to over 9,000 kilometers across 16 strategic corridors.

The new concessions cover eight strategic corridors spanning 11 provinces, including Santa Fe, Córdoba, Entre Ríos, Santiago del Estero, Salta, Jujuy, Tucumán, Corrientes, Misiones, Chaco, and Mendoza. The model is based on 100% private investment with no direct state subsidies, utilizing a toll-based system to fund operations, repairs, and maintenance. The contracts are set for a 20-year duration.

Under the agreement, private operators will be responsible for the administration, exploitation, and maintenance of the routes, including tasks such as repaving, pothole repair, and signage. Vialidad Nacional will maintain oversight of the contracts to ensure compliance with established service levels. The government expects works on these segments to begin by the end of September.
