Argentina awards $700 M for 700 MW of battery storage across national grid
Argentina’s Energy Secretariat has awarded 20 battery‑energy‑storage system (BESS) projects totalling 700.5 MW to five developers under the AlmaSADI tender. The projects, spread across seven regions—Buenos Aires province, Northwest, Chaco‑Formosa, Misiones‑Corrientes, Entre Ríos, Santa Fe and the Pampa—represent an estimated $700 million investment and aim to reinforce the Argentine Interconnection System (SADI) outside the Buenos Aires metropolitan area.
The tender, launched in March 2026, attracted 235 technical bids amounting to 8,338 MW—more than eleven times the targeted capacity. After technical evaluation and the opening of financial offers on 24 June, the final award was formalised by Resolution 155/2026. Genneia secured seven projects, DQD Energy eight, 360 Energy Solar three, Aluar one and Intermepro one.
The battery installations will provide rapid response to demand changes, increase dispatch flexibility and add operating reserves, improving grid reliability and facilitating greater integration of wind and solar generation.
