Argentina bans dumpling-shaped squishy toys over health risks
The Argentine government has issued a nationwide ban on the import, manufacture, sale, and storage of squishy-type toys shaped like gyoza or dumplings. The measure, established through Disposition 690/2026, targets products sold under names such as ‘Squeezy Dumplings’, ‘Dumpling Squishy’, ‘Dumpling Squishy Viral con Glitter y Orbis’, and ‘Dumpling Squishy con Steamer Box’, as well as generic unbranded versions.
The ban follows reports indicating that these toys may contain hazardous substances, including benzene and phthalates, at levels exceeding national safety standards. Official warnings state these chemicals pose health risks, including potential carcinogenic and mutagenic effects through skin contact or inhalation.
In addition to prohibiting new sales, the government has ordered all importers, manufacturers, and retailers to immediately withdraw existing stock from the market and proceed with its safe destruction or disposal in accordance with current regulations.
