Argentina bans Pinch Family Squishy toys over health risks
The Argentine government has banned the import, manufacture, sale, and storage of Squishy toys from the brand Pinch Family due to health risks for children. The decision, formalized through Disposition 804/2026 by the Undersecretariat of Consumer Defense and Commercial Loyalty, follows laboratory tests revealing dangerous levels of chemical substances.
Testing conducted by the Argentine Chamber of the Toy Industry (CAIJ) detected concentrations of bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) exceeding double the maximum authorized limit. Specifically, the substance was found at levels above 0.2% of the material's weight, whereas the legal limit is 0.1%. Phthalates are plasticizers used to increase flexibility but are strictly regulated due to health risks associated with childhood exposure.
The ban applies nationwide to all models and variants of these Chinese-made flexible plastic toys sold in traditional stores and via digital platforms. Importers, distributors, and retailers are required to immediately and safely destroy all affected units. Online sellers must prominently display information regarding the ban on their websites within 72 business hours of its enactment. Failure to comply may result in sanctions.
