Argentina begins preparations for Pope Leo XIV visit

The Argentine government and the Catholic Church have begun formal preparations for the upcoming visit of Pope Leo XIV, scheduled to take place from November 8 to November 11. Karina Milei, the General Secretary of the Presidency, hosted a meeting at Casa Rosada with representatives from the Argentine Episcopal Conference (CEA) to coordinate logistics, security, and the official agenda.

The meeting included high-ranking officials such as the Minister of Security, Alejandra Monteoliva, the Minister of Human Capital, Sandra Pettovello, and Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno. Archbishop Jorge García Cuerva led the ecclesiastical delegation. Discussions focused on security arrangements, which the national government will manage in coordination with provincial forces, as well as transportation and public dissemination of the event.

This visit marks the first time a pope has traveled to Argentina in nearly 40 years. The Pope's itinerary is expected to include stops in Buenos Aires, Córdoba, and Luján. Before arriving in Argentina, the Pope will visit Uruguay, and his regional tour will conclude in Peru. A second advance mission from the Holy See is expected to arrive in Argentina on August 30 to evaluate logistics and potential venues for mass gatherings.
