Argentina boosts renewable power with 180 MW San Rafael solar park and 500 kV transmission upgrade

Genneia announced that the San Rafael solar park in Mendoza has entered full commercial operation. The project reaches its designed capacity of 180 MW, representing a $180 million investment and a total of 450 MW of solar assets in the province. It is expected to generate over 500,000 MWh annually, enough for about 135,000 homes, and to avoid roughly 230,000 t of CO₂ each year, supplying clean electricity to industrial and mining customers.

In a separate development, PCR and ArcelorMittal Acindar inaugurated an expansion of the Ezeiza 500 kV transformer station. The $40 million upgrade adds shunt capacitors that increase transmission capacity to serve the equivalent of 600,000 households and relieves a bottleneck in the Comahue‑Buenos Aires corridor of the Argentine Interconnection System (SADI). The first phase is part of a broader $275 million programme that also includes the 185.6 MW Olavarría wind farm and a new 25‑km line to connect it, with full commissioning expected in January 2027 and a total workforce of about 350 people.
