Argentina braces for heavy rains amid Super Niño forecasts

Municipal authorities in Entre Ríos province convened a Civil Defence meeting to coordinate response plans for the anticipated "Super Niño" event, which could bring intense rainfall and flooding in September. The meeting, led by Mayor José Lauritto and attended by police, fire, gendarmerie, federal forces and engineers, focused on reinforcing drainage works, cleaning 26 storm sewers and preparing emergency measures to protect homes and infrastructure.

Meanwhile, the National Meteorological Service warned that the eastern urban area of Buenos Aires province—covering cities such as La Plata, Berisso and Ensenada—faces a higher probability of normal‑to‑above‑normal precipitation from July to September, while the western interior is expected to receive typical rainfall. The forecast highlights the need for close monitoring of short‑term rain events to avoid street flooding and traffic disruptions in densely populated zones.
