Argentina children face severe health crises with government support

A six‑year‑old girl from Pocito, San Juan Province, named Sheila, remains in intensive care at Hospital Rawson after a serious bacterial infection led to two prolonged cardiorespiratory arrests and a coma. Doctors succeeded in resuscitating her, but the lack of oxygen for about 12 minutes raises concerns about possible irreversible brain damage. Her family, Kevin Oro and Magalí Fernández, stay at the hospital around the clock and have appealed for prayers and financial help to cover the costly treatment and surgeries required after the infection caused intestinal tissue loss.

In a separate case, four‑year‑old Juan Ignacio from Concepción, Tucumán Province, returned home after receiving specialized care for achondroplasia at the Hospital de Pediatría Garrahan in Buenos Aires. Minister of Social Development Federico Masso met the boy, his parents and officials, confirming state assistance for travel, accommodation and ongoing medical follow‑up every four months. The government pledged continued support for the family’s needs, including habitat improvements and the provision of a spinal brace to avoid surgery.
