Argentina commemorates Malvinas War through treks and veteran testimonies

Various initiatives in Argentina are highlighting the diverse roles played during the Falklands War (Guerra de Malvinas). In Neuquén, former Army members Ángel Espinosa and Lucas Ricardo Costancio completed the “Misión Malvinas,” a trek between Zapala and Cutral Co. The journey, conducted in harsh weather conditions including snow and wind, served as a tribute to veterans and the fallen. The pair carried a flag provided by veterans and plan to continue projects focused on patriotic values and youth education.

In San Antonio de Areco, women who served during the conflict shared their experiences with approximately 500 secondary school students. Silvia Barrera, a surgical technician who volunteered at the Hospital Militar Central, and María Liliana Colino discussed the often-overlooked participation of women as nurses, surgical technicians, and health professionals. Barrera noted that when the need for surgical technicians became critical, only six women volunteered to depart for service.
