Argentina cracks down on illegal parking at Bahía Blanca airport and Villa María

Authorities at Bahía Blanca’s Comandante Espora Airport began clearing a parking lot that had been occupied 24‑hours a day by companies and private vehicles unrelated to passengers or airport staff. An investigation has been launched to identify the long‑term occupiers. Workers had warned that “gran parte” del espacio era utilizado por una concesionaria y una agencia de alquiler. The operation aims to return spaces to travelers and airport users.

In Villa María, the municipal government compacted 80 abandoned cars and 10 motorcycles after owners failed to reclaim them within the legally set periods. Secretary Guadalupe Vázquez explained, “Se trata de vehículos que fueron abandonados en la vía pública…”. The vehicles were taken to a treatment plant, fluids removed, and the metal sold as recyclable scrap, generating revenue for the city while eliminating health hazards and illegal dumping.

Both actions are part of broader local efforts to free parking for legitimate users, reduce safety and health risks, and recover economic value from improperly occupied spaces.
