Argentina cuts ex-president Cristina Kirchner's $15.6 million pension

Argentina's government announced that former president Cristina Kirchner will receive her monthly pension of about 15.68 million pesos with two significant deductions. One reduction removes the additional allowance for the southern zone, arguing that she now serves her sentence under house arrest in Buenos Aires and no longer resides in Patagonia. A second deduction of roughly 3.136 million pesos per month will be applied until a total of 660 million pesos is recovered, which the government says was received improperly.

The cuts follow a precautionary court order that obliges the pension agency ANSES to restore the pension but also to enforce the deductions. Kirchner, convicted of corruption in the Vialidad case, had previously received two benefits under Law 24.018 – one for her own presidency and another as the widow of former president Néstor Kirchner – both suspended after her six‑year sentence. The executive branch says it will pursue all legal avenues to prevent her from receiving privileged pension allocations.

ANSES confirmed it will comply with the judicial directive while the government prepares to appeal the decision before the Supreme Court.
