Argentina and Mexico implement water management measures amid El Niño

In response to the El Niño phenomenon, the Argentine Navy has launched a large-scale humanitarian and preventive operation across the Litoral region. The deployment includes the ARA Ciudad de Zárate and the patrol boat ARA Punta Mogotes, which will serve as strategic nodes in Corrientes to provide medical, clinical, and dental assistance to residents of river islands. The operation also utilizes amphibious logistical vehicles to reach isolated areas and covers the provinces of Corrientes, Misiones, Chaco, Formosa, Santa Fe, Entre Ríos, and Buenos Aires.

Simultaneously, the province of Tucumán has activated its Integral Water Prevention Plan. The government has deployed over 40 work fronts to clean riverbeds, remove sediment, and construct defenses using gabions and stone bags to mitigate flood risks.

In Mexico, the city of Puebla has implemented the Xicalli strategy, installing 124 rainwater harvesting systems in public schools. Each system has a 5,000-liter capacity, allowing for the collection of up to 620,000 liters of water to be used for non-potable purposes such as irrigation and cleaning.
