Argentina launches digital overhaul of vehicle registration system
The Argentine government, led by President Javier Milei, issued Resolutions 306/2026 and 308/2026 to create the “Plan Nacional de Digitalización y Reorganización Integral del Sistema Registral Automotor.” The reform aims to replace paper‑based procedures with a fully online platform, introducing a Legajo Digital Único (LDU) and Certificado Digital Automotor (CDA) while consolidating registers into the RUNA and RUV systems.
A new fee‑calculation unit, the Módulo de Registro de la Propiedad del Automotor (MRPA), will replace the existing tariff structure. One MRPA equals 0.5 UVA and will be adjusted quarterly based on the official UVA rate, standardising costs for all vehicle‑related transactions.
Implementation is scheduled to begin in August 2026, with a 30‑day deadline for the National Directorate to publish a detailed rollout plan. The digital system will allow citizens to initiate, pay for, and track any vehicle registration, transfer or related service remotely, irrespective of the jurisdiction where the vehicle is registered.
Regional representatives, notably the Chamber of Mandatarios in Mendoza, have warned that the transition may face delays, technical glitches and heightened fraud risk until the full digitisation of legacy files is achieved. They also note that some functions are being transferred to private operators, raising concerns about service continuity.
