Argentina Economy Minister Luis Caputo meets Wall Street investors
Argentine Economy Minister Luis Caputo met with approximately 60 international investors at JP Morgan’s headquarters in New York to affirm the government’s commitment to its current economic and monetary path. Caputo stated that the administration will maintain its fiscal and monetary approach through the 2027 election year, emphasizing that reforms may accelerate if President Javier Milei is re-elected. He also noted that Argentina has exceeded the optimistic reserve targets set by the IMF, having secured over $10 billion with a goal of reaching $17 billion.
While Caputo seeks to reassure Wall Street, market analysts noted that Argentina’s country risk recently rose to 530 basis points, reflecting lingering investor caution. This occurs as a technical delegation from the IMF begins its third review of the country's current program in Buenos Aires.
Separately, the government reported that the Large Investment Incentive Regime (RIGI) is already impacting the domestic economy, involving more than 1,200 national suppliers. Caputo noted that 86% of RIGI-related investments are directed toward national companies. One major project under this regime is the $2.2 billion Manuel Belgrano Gas Pipeline, which aims to expand gas transport capacity from Vaca Muerta and is projected to be operational by April 2029.
