Argentina expands Ezeiza transformer station to boost grid capacity

On 8 June 2026 PCR and ArcelorMittal Acindar inaugurated the expanded Ezeiza transformer station in Argentina. The upgrade added Shunt capacitors to the 500 kV corridor of the Comahue‑Buenos Aires line, part of the Argentine Interconnection System (SADI), providing transmission capacity equivalent to supplying about 600,000 households and easing constraints during peak demand.

The first stage cost US$40 million and is part of a US$275 million project that also includes expanding the Olavarría transformer station, building the 185.6 MW Olavarría wind park with 29 turbines, and laying a 25‑km transmission line to connect the wind farm to SADI. Completion of the whole complex is targeted for January 2027, and around 350 workers will be employed during construction.

CEOs Martín Brandi (PCR) and Federico Amos (ArcelorMittal Acindar) stressed the project's role in integrating more renewable generation, reducing bottlenecks and supporting Argentina’s energy transition and decarbonisation strategy. Government officials, including Energy Secretary María Tettamanti, attended the ceremony.
