Argentina expands pediatric care and respiratory‑infection training in Tucumán and Chubut

Argentina’s Ministry of Public Health, led by Luis Medina Ruiz, inspected the Hospital Eva Perón in Tucumán, highlighting rapid growth in its pediatric department. Consultations rose from 4,000 to 7,700 monthly, and inpatient capacity increased from six to 22 beds, with occupancy reaching 80‑85 %. In the southern province of Chubut, the provincial health secretariat organized the “Jornadas Provinciales de Infecciones Respiratorias Agudas Bajas” at the María Humphreys Hospital in Trelew. The event brought together 140 health workers, both in‑person and virtually, to update clinical management of acute lower respiratory infections in children. Director Silvina Leiva emphasized, “es importante sostener espacios de formación conjunta que permitan compartir experiencias, actualizar conocimientos y fortalecer las redes de trabajo entre los equipos de salud de toda la provincia.” The training covered epidemiology, diagnosis, severe case handling, referral criteria, and interdisciplinary care, aiming to improve winter‑time pediatric health outcomes across the province.
