Tropical wave 13 brings heavy rain and flood alerts across Mexico

A tropical wave identified as number 13 is moving across central Mexico, generating strong thunderstorms, heavy rains and flash‑flood risks. The Servicio Meteorológico Nacional warned of intense downpours of up to 50 mm in Puebla, where the wave may cause urban flooding, hail and strong gusts. In Michoacán, the SC OP is clearing debris from the Paso Catrinas area of Morelia after the wave caused overflowing drainage. Protection Civil alerts were issued for multiple states, including heavy rain warnings for Campeche and wind‑gust alerts for Chihuahua and surrounding municipalities. Local fire services in Cuernavaca responded to fallen trees resulting from the storm. In Mexico City, heavy rain on June 28 caused temporary flooding near the Estadio Ciudad de México and disrupted Light Rail service ahead of the Mexico‑vs‑Ecuador World Cup match, prompting cleanup operations. Meteorologists also noted a 90 % chance that a low‑pressure area in the Pacific could develop into Tropical Cyclone “Douglas” within 48 hours. The national weather service advised residents to stay hydrated, avoid outdoor exposure during peak heat, secure loose objects and follow official updates.
