Argentina eyes new mayoral contenders in La Plata and Yerba Buena for 2027

Kirchnerist leader Josefina Bolis, a university professor and longtime La Cámpora member, has become the public face of the Peronist bloc in La Plata’s city council. After assuming the presidency of the Fuerza Patria bloc, she is being floated as a possible mayoral candidate for the 2027 municipal elections, amid internal party reconfiguration and discussions about the future of the city’s leadership.

In Tucumán, Libertad Avanza is positioning deputy Federico Pelli to challenge the entrenched Campero faction by running for the mayoralty of Yerba Buena in 2027. Backed by party figures such as Lisandro Catalán, Pelli is presented as a strong contender who could reshape the opposition’s strategy ahead of the provincial elections.

Both moves signal a broader push by Argentina’s major political currents to field fresh candidates for key local posts, potentially reshaping municipal leadership in the Buenos Aires province and Tucumán province over the next electoral cycle.
