Argentina Central Bank accumulates over $1 billion in USD purchases this October
The Central Bank of the Argentine Republic (BCRA) has purchased more than $1 billion in US dollars during October 2026. This follows a period of increased intervention, with the entity recording 15 consecutive days of purchases. As of October 19, the bank acquired $18 million in a single session, bringing its monthly total to $1,001 million.
Since the start of the fourth stage of its monetary program in January 2026, the BCRA has purchased a total of $15,569 million. This figure already exceeds more than half of the $10 billion annual target established with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The government projects that total acquisitions could reach $20 billion by the end of the year.
The availability of foreign currency has been supported by agricultural exports, which exceeded $22 billion this year, as well as energy sector exports and external debt issuances by provinces and companies. However, economic reports from CIFRA-CTA warn of a continuous outflow of currency, estimating accumulated capital flight at $48.8 billion and projecting a financial gap of $22 billion by 2027.
