Paraguay Chamber of Deputies considers stricter sanctions for absenteeism

The Chamber of Deputies in Paraguay is evaluating reforms to its internal regulations to increase penalties for legislator absenteeism and tardiness. Currently, the rules mandate fines of 300,000 Guaraníes for late arrivals and 600,000 Guaraníes for unjustified absences.

Legislators, including Deputy Daniel Centurión, noted that existing control mechanisms have faced practical difficulties in systematic execution. Under instructions from Speaker Raúl Latorre, a technical team is designing a more agile administrative procedure to ensure these sanctions are effectively applied, aiming to improve the institution's public image and ensure parliamentary responsibility.
